Los Osos

Welcome to Los Osos

Enchantment and secluded estates in a forested, bayside town

Blue skies, mystique, and bears, oh my! The charming town of Los Osos is a whimsical, secluded oasis of gorgeous natural beauty, quaint seaside vibes, and a history of bears. The name Los Osos is Spanish for “valley of the bears.” When discovered in 1769, this beautiful spot was named for the abundance of furry creatures populating the forested areas. Today the local wildlife enjoys the enchanted forests of Los Osos Oaks State Park and the Elfin Forest, but the sense of magic and wild spirit remain the same.

Many of the roads in Los Osos are still unpaved, a unique and rare find in a world increasingly committed to technology and a glossy image. The maze of pathways leads adventurers into the heart of this stunning town, and the spectacular nature reserves and ocean views are the stuff of dreams. The strong family focus and close-knit community in Los Osos create a supportive and warm atmosphere residents cherish. The sense of serenity offers a respite from the hectic cities of nearby San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

High Street Deli elevates the classic deli sandwich in more ways than one. These towering delights are layered with flavors and feature deli favorites like the French dip and an impossibly stuffed Reuben on Dutch crunch bread. The patio at Noi’s 2nd Street Café was made for alfresco lunches. This celebrated Thai bistro is known for spicy curries, a quaint and cozy dining room, and rich, creamy lattes.

Eclectic flavors and unique treats are the name of the game at Sylvester’s Burgers. This casual burger joint features nacho burgers, elk and buffalo varieties, and even a five-pound burger, not to mention a kitschy, Insta-worthy burger sign. Windows On the Water, in nearby Morro Bay, takes fine dining to new heights with a stunning waterfront setting and a sumptuous fusion menu of coastal, Mediterranean, and French flavors. The sea-to-table dishes include artfully plated standouts like oysters on the half shell and Coho salmon with purple rice and bok choy.

Things to Do

Sun filters through groves of majestic oaks, dappling the hiking trails at Los Osos Oaks State Reserve with soft sunlight. This 85-acre state park, dripping in Spanish moss, was established in 1972 and has long since become known as a bastion of Central Coast beauty. Transport yourself to a land before time at Elfin Forest, an enchanted nature area spanning 90 acres. Wander down the boardwalk, through the prehistoric sand dunes, and catch a glimpse of the local wildlife and rare plants.

The weather in Los Osos is just too good not to spend mornings out on the golf course, and Central Coast Golf Trail provides the perfect setting. This memorable nine-hole course is challenging in all the right ways and sports lovely postcard views. The quaint seaside beauty of Los Osos is on full display at Baywood Park Pier. This picturesque place features an adorable pier and a serene atmosphere ideal for bird-watching and relaxation.
